My Blog Got a Top Blog Award!

Top Atheism Blog

Presented by: Online School

Now, I’m not sure what to think about this.  I never heard of this organization prior to this, but Onlineschools has determined that this blog is one of the top 50 atheism blogs.

I find this rather interesting, and according to the email I got, a reader nominated this blog for the award.

Congratulations! Madison here, and your blog, Godlessons, was determined to
be one of the top resources about your topic, and has received our Top 50
Atheism Blogs award!

You can see your name amongst our winners here at:

Winners were chosen through a scoring system that included internet
nominations, which came from your reader base!

Apparently Online Schools is a place to find online schools, and they have taken into consideration the blogosphere.  It seems that atheism fits into the science category somehow.  Whatever it is, it is nice to be considered, and even nicer to be chosen.

I was looking, and the only other religious type blogs are Paganism and Buddhism.  Buddhism is under the School of Life and Health blogs where Atheism and Paganism are in the school of science.  I would have to argue with putting paganism under science whatsoever, but oh well.

Interestingly, and possibly why my blog was able to make it on the list, they don’t do it by a voting system.  From their about page:

Awards candidates are found by one method:
- Anonymous nominations that are open to the internet community

This allows us to generate a candidate list that is based upon what the internet determines as being good, original content. We stay away from a voting system because the only information that gives us is how well a site’s readership can click a button.

After a list of candidates is compiled, we then filter the list to ensure that each site qualifies for the category. We then give the list to be scored by our panel of 5 judges. Each judge rates each blog across 20 different attributes, including content, frequency of updates, amount of advertising, length of posts, and readibility. This then provides the site with a ‘subjective’ score. These ratings are combined into an aggregate total for the 5 judges. The amount of nominations are also converted into a score, and this score combined with the aggregate score gives the blog its final rating.

The ratings are then compared for each site within a category and awards are given out to blogs in the 99% percentile (meaning the top 1% of blogs receive awards).

So that means that someone nominated me and their judges made the decision.

I have an overwhelming urge to play this down.  I realize that the competition isn’t all that fierce to get on a list that is so obscure, but since I had no clue this award existed, I also realize that it means that someone that reads my blog nominated me for this award, which is amazing.

Too often I wonder how many people read what I write.  I see the numbers of the people that come here, but I don’t see as much interaction as I might like, especially based on those numbers.  Because of that, I have sometimes questioned myself about why I do this.

The fact that someone took the time to nominate my blog means a lot to me, and I would like to thank whoever it was.  I really do appreciate it.

Thanks to everyone.
