Wow, I couldn’t believe it. Today Pope Benedict XVI made an announcement that has both shocked and delighted the world. Apparently, homosexuality is no longer a sin.
Amid the huge uproar about the pope’s involvement with covering up pedophile priests, this seems like it could be a ploy to take the attention away from himself. It could also be an attempt to whitewash the church’s image. Whatever it is, the shock is on everyone’s face when they hear about this. You have staunch homophobes that have vowed to leave the Catholic church, and there are priests from all corners of the world coming out of the closet.
In more liberal countries that allow it, there have been announcements of nuns and priests both leaving their callings in order to get married to apparent long time lovers.
On the other side, there are huge protests in the southern United States as people are taking to the streets in mass protest against this “abomination”. “The Pope is the antichrist.” is a common message on picket signs in front of Catholic churches all across the bible belt. One Catholic church was even firebombed by a man screaming, “Marriage is not between a man and a man or a woman and a woman, it is between a man and his female underage cousin.”
Needless to say, I am personally happy that this has happened. Hopefully it will eventually have a trickle down effect and reach the rest of these homophobic idiots.
